Experience/Goals:
Jason H. Phillips has mixed hues since the age of five and has been his deepest passion through the years of his creative development. Phillips attended Cass Tech High School, Detroit, MI, where he had the ability to explore his art. The vast exploration of his brush strokes against canvas had opened up the door to various competitions. Phillips won scholar-ships and awards in many local and national art contests and exhibitions, including the Marie W. Sharpe Art Scholarship at Colorado College in 1992. This experience allowed Phillips the opportunity to enlarge the territory of his gift under the intense mentoring of nationally renowned painters such as Charles Parness and Janet Fish. Phillips achieved his Bachelor of Fine Arts at Wayne State University and is an active member of the National Conference of Artists and participates in fruition of the mission of the Arts League of Michigan. Phillips is the founder of Roots Visual Designs, LLC (RVD), a design house established by Phillips in 1996. Many of Detroit’s prestigious communal information promotions were created by the ingenious eye of Phillips and have been the captivation of the observation of the masses. Major professional companies such as McDonald’s Corporation, Pelle Pelle Fashion, and Miller Genuine Draft have had the privilege of featuring the inventive trademarks and adver-tisements of Phillips’s works.

Through the eyes of Generation Next to the third eye of intellectual scholars, the artwork of Phillips has mesmerized many viewers. Many prominent artists as well as art collectors admire the vast collection of Phillips’s work.

In December 2002 the Arts League of Michigan commissioned Phillips to create a mural for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum in Cleveland, OH. The painting, “Making a Joyful Noise”, was part of a national exhibit entitled “Rock My Soul”.

Phillips illustrates the lifestyle of many within the urban communities and within African American culture. He wants those who view his art to be able to relate to what is being said through the visualization he creates. “I want my work to make the viewer think about social issues or see a side of society that rarely gets documented in art”, says Phillips in his outlook on the impact of his work.

Art print industry vs. the gallery

I was having a discussion with a fellow artist the other day about selling prints. I have tried to stay the typical art "purist" for years. Meaning that I don't do mass reproductions of my paintings. This practice has not been very profitable for me. African American fine art is not mainstream enough for the majority to collect and when a piece does sell, the artist is subject to pay the gallery 35-50% commission.

Selling prints makes your work more affordable. The advantage of doing prints is… Continue

The photoshop CS4 is pretty much the same to me. I'm familiar with fireworks and dreamweaver, and some of the other programs, but I'm enjoying some of the one's I didn't have previously. i still miss Image ready though. Trying to figure out which program is best to use to accomplish what Image Ready could do.
