Hip hop played a large role in getting Obama into the White House. The rappers motivated the kids and therefore the kids went out to the polls and elected Obama into office. At the time Obaba seemed grateful, although from a distance, for the support, even saying that he has a few Jay-Z songs on his iPod. However some news is coming out of the White House that when it comes to his family, Obama is on some other shit.

Word is that Obama has banned his two little girls, Sasha and Malia, from listening to hip hop. The girls are not allowed to play any of that jive in the White House due to the fact that Obama thinks the music overall promotes poor values to children. Well duh! I am hearing that the girls never liked hip hop before so this wasn’t much of an issue but after this election they got turned onto the genre, but their poppa wasn’t with it. He let the girls know and their team of keepers at the White House what the new policy was.

I must say I can’t be too mad at Barack for this one. Hip hop is on some dumb shit overall right now so who can blame him for wanting to keep “Gimme Dat Pussy” out of his little girls lives? Do you think Barack is turning his back on us or is he just exhibiting responsible parenting?

He's exhibiting responsible parenting. IMO

When you have children of that age, it is your JOB, to have a handle on what you allow them to take in. With that said, there really is no hip-hop that is "age-appropriate" for children of that age, so hey, I really can't blame him. Now after they reach a certain age, I think that he should allow them to branch out and take in whatever music they so choose (within limits). Because at the end of the day they won't be in his house, the White House or under his watchful eye forever. So they need to be somewhat exposed to things. If for nothing else to provide a well-rounded understanding of things.

And with that said, he can say or do whatever the hell he wants to, lol. I personally listen to all forms of hip-hop / rap. The good and the bad. The conscious and the "mindless." But I don't let my 3y/o listen to it. Although that's a bit different, because he's a sponge who loves music. And the last thing I need him repeating is... "I father / I Brooklyn Dodger them / I Jack - I Rob - I Sin / awww man, I'm Jackie Robinson / 'cept when I run base... I dodge the pen." Is it a cold ass line, yeah. Is it appropriate for a child to be repeating out loud... uhhh, no.

Now there will be many people sad to say, that Barack is uncle tom'ing or being two-facededed or what have you. But he's doing what HE feels best for his kids and their upbringing. As a parent, I can't even be mad at him.

thanks PL very true right here
i agree with you 100% and keep up the good work on that most parents these days don't care i think its the age of the parents these days most parents are kids also
and you are right that is a hot line

I mean... I agree with you two. What mommy and daddy listen to has nothing to do with what mommy and daddy should let their kids listen to. However, with that said, I don't think all hip hop should be off limits. I think a parent should be in the know, and find out what is okay, and what isn't age appropriate. Personally, I don't have kids yet, but I don't plan to shield my kids from reality. I would focus on talking with them like my mother did. You know, listening or watching videos and talking to them about what's what... what's trashy, what's fake, what's not, where those things lead, and etc. Basically raising my kids with common sense, good values, some level of class, righteousness, humility, wit, book and street knowledge... all of it. I don't want no bubble gum bobble head kids! I'd personally be agitated if my kids were in love with Miley Cyrus or whatever but shunned Raven Symone or didn't know who Kanye West was. WHAAAAT! My goodness. We talking about black kids, who need to be in touch with all of society in order to really be well-rounded. They need to be firmly in touch with the tears of the past. You know what I mean? Not saying I want them to feel held down by it, but I want them to really feel in their soul a connection to their own people, and all people. In my opinion all that Miley Cyrus stuff is pollution! lol. Not knocking anyone's kids who like it, I'm just saying that bubble gum crap is crap to me! lol. I don't think that's a good example of REAL life. I'd rather my kids like mature music like mommy used to. I was listening to aretha franklin, whitney houston, gladys knight, and so forth... with maybe the occasional boy band, some rock, conscious rap, or kiddie rap artist or somethin. ANYTHING REAL! It doesn't have to be no to all hip hop, or all of anything. What about letting them listen to Teyana Taylor... she's young and does age appropriate hip hop-ish music. It just needs to be age appropriate. meaning no obvertly sexual, or horrible language... but at the same time, all that kiddie pop disney channel stuff needs to be balanced out with something that AIN'T bubble gum! Like I said, that stuff without balance is pollution, just like crass hip hop would be. IMO. I'd hate to see his girls grow up to be bobble heads like a Nicole Richie type.

I like Ladessa's stance on this issue. I think you have to be a responsible parent, but part of that means knowing how to think for yourself. I'm not going to ban a whole genre of music because the media magnifies one aspect of it. I'm not lazy. I search for music and information on my own and from a wide variety of sources. I'm not going to only listen to genres that others think are acceptable. Barack Obama is a politician, and a good one, but that's all he is. He's no more a role model than Jay Z.in my opinion. A good role model needs to exhibt some independence in thought and action. You can shuck and jive for 50 million dollars and air time on MTV or you can shuck and jive for 50 million votes and airtime on CNN. You still shucking and jiving. Some people may be more impressed with one more than the other. Some people might find one more acceptable than the other. I don't find either to be very impressive.

I am curious where it was stated that he has "banned" hip-hop. I believe it to actually be certain subgenres of hip-hop. Not sure he would not be listening to people he invited to personally perform at his inaugural ball(s). With children of my own, I "ban" certain music that promotes a certain thinking that a mature eye and ear cannot "filter". If it eluded to sex or violence I and they do not listen to it. My son's ipod is monitored religiously (checking on it now while it is syncing next to me lol). It is just my 2 cents but we have got to get a handle on our seeds.. this world is not for play anymore.. (if it ever was)and only a productive work ethic, strong discipline and pride will help these seeds succeed.
but I digress.

Bottom line: I dont think he banned all hip-hop and also if he banned some... good for him. when you are a child you spoke (and listened) as a child.

what?? :O the article was where it came from that Obama banned hip hop from the white house he is not listening to it in the white house that is where that came from

banning is what Obama is doing there is not any hip hop playing in the place at all

censoring is what we are doing as parents cause we are still listening to it but the kids can't
which is good that you are sitting there next to the ipod while it's syncing (i couldn't takes to long)
but let me pose a question to you and all of you as parents

we tell them they can't listen to it at home on the ipods but don't you still think they are listening to it at school in the street?

Lastly Obama banns hip hop the question is raised which Obama banned it?

Interesting............ To be continued

Oh my bad, I tracked (or tried to track down) this story/ rumor and it brought me to 24hourhiphop. under their rumor section. .. so I dont take much stock in it. It was followed by Eve- white boyfriend and Jim jone's credit card issues. Who "banned it" if it fact it was banned.. that is a good question.. but I have questions on whether it WAS banned and if so ALL or certain artists.

so your issue is well thought you researched the the answer and you found hmm nothing
the article was not written is whether the first family banned hip hop but looking along the lines of good parenting if you look at the article it was said that he will not allow his children to listen to it

people are so happy that we have a black president add that to the fact oooo he listens to hip hop he still is a parent the title of the article was misrepresented ban is not a good word censors hip hop from the white house should have been used

which leads me to the next blog post about the media

is a untruth still the truth

also i noticed the other question was not answered

its not about a black president that listens to hip hop but a parent who is in the light and cares about his kids

let alone he is black.....

now thats Wisdom holla

Hadn't heard this before right now. I can understand why he would want to protect his children from listening to the vast majority of the crap that "passes" for hip-hop these days. I think it would be great if he would expose them to some of the ol skool hip-hop or precursors to current day hip-hop that had a meaning and a message and was more historical and didn't man-bash, woman-bash and was just reporting on current affairs. They will grow and become more independent and listen to whatever they like.
